Fair Field Flowers
Fresh, local and sustainably produced flowers for Florists in Wisconsin
Sustainable Practices
Fresh
We cut the product yesterday,
keep it in a cooler, and transport it to you in a
refridgerated van where the product is kept in
water.
Local
We are bringing to the market place floral material that has been grown in the
area instead of places such as, California, Asia, South America, and Holland.
Transportation from these faraway places means transportation costs are high, not only to the florist but
also to the environment due to the gas, pesticides, herbicides and other
chemicals used to keep the product fresh in its long journey to the end
user.
Sustainable
Most cut flower growers worldwide use pesticides and chemicals that leave a
residue on the flowers days after purchase by the consumer. Sustainable
growing methods create a safer product for consumers, reduce pollution of
the atmosphere and ground, and create a knowledge base for growers on
sustainable methods for controlling pests, increasing harvest, and reducing
weeds. Sustainable agriculture methods use the following strategies to reduce pests
and weeds: crop rotation, cultivar planting, cover crops, weedy margins,
compost fertilizer, individual plant pruning, and close monitoring of
flowers. Fair Field Flowers espouses these method as well as integrated
pest management and uses only organic herbicides, pesticides and
fertilizers.
